This week, we have begun our new Maths topic: Decimals. We have been learning how they represent parts of a whole and connect to the fractions we already know.
In Geography, we have been looking at ecosystems and biomes. The children worked collaboratively in groups to create informative posters about different biomes, sharing ideas and combining their knowledge to present their learning creatively.
Have a lovely half term everybody. Relax, have fun and read!
4C have been working so hard on assesment week so we have delved into our creative side in the afternoons!
We have all built our own night lights in DT! We have created some superb pieces of decoration that will soon be coming home to light up their rooms.
We organised a class litter pick around our school to help reduce pollution and tackle global warming. By working together to clean our environment, we showed how small actions can make a big difference.
We have also learnt about the water cycle in geography, exploring how water ends up in the sky, falling down onto our heads, floating down rivers and ends up back in the ocean. Over the course of this week we have built and observed our own in-house water cycle. See if you can identify any parts of the water cycle from these pictures!
Computing this half term has been exploring ‘Ardunio’. We have been using the iPad sensors to measure decibels. Linking closely to our Geography and Science learning, we measured the decibels of different categories of animals within the animal kingdom. If you look closely at these pictures, you can see when the sound was made!
RE consisted of making beautiful artistic drawings representing Good Friday. Pupils used a range of art materials to create a moody atmosphere. Some of us chose to use chalk and some of us chose to use oil pastels.
We had many practise runs before our final products!
In reading, we have been practising BACK2BACK readers with our fluency read!
Finally, We have discovered a new times tables game, have a go at home and see if you can beat your child!!! Tug of War
On Wednesday we had an exciting visit from Roots and Routes. In the first session, we explored Photography. Children experimented with the camera, composition, backgrounds and angels. The second session consisted of making our own avatars then placing them in the oven to harden.
Working scientifically, we have explored categorising and sorting groups using dichotomous keys (DK). To understand the concept we used liquorice sweets. Next week will will be categorising animals using DK.
For Science Week we had a wonderful parent visitor explaining all things Civil Engineering. Pupils had the opportunity to build their own robust structure. What an amazing opportunity!
We are continuing our dive into fractions. Today we explore fractions using Cuisenaire rods. We conceptualised converting mixed-number fractions into improper fractions! Take a look at some of our working out:
Writing this week consisted of our portal story’s. Our shared write is based on us visiting the library and being zapped into a portal!
In our Computing lessons this week we were exploring a new app called ‘Adurino’. This is a scientific app used to measure acceleration, heart rate, sound etc. During our daily mile, we measured our acceleration
This week in Maths we have been learning all about perimeter and measurements. On Tuesday, we braved the cold to measure the length and width of the MUGA. to work out its perimeter. Take a look at us using real life skills to work out a maths problem!
Once a week, we take a trip to our wonderful library. Pupils get to chill and read their books for thirty minutes. Meanwhile, Miss Chadwick and her book club get stuck into our own book!
We are one step closer to finishing our final art design. Inspired by the style of Jean-Michel Basquiat, we painted our scared figures and added finer details using chalk pens. Our artwork represents our fears and how they make us feel and it uses the skill of Kennings to describe them.
We are currently battling the whole country in a TTRS competition. We need EVERYONES help! We are currently 1068 out of 20,00 schools whereas 4DA are 34th! Let’s get up there 4C!
Here are the guidelines:
Rules:
Every correct answer that a student gives, in any game type, between the hours of 7:30am to 7:30pm will contribute to their class and school score.
There is a 60-minute limit playtime per player.
Each class has a minimum player count of 10. If fewer than 10 in the class play in the competition, their total will be divided by 10 regardless.
Art this term has been all about Kennings! We have created our own poems based on our fears to prepare for our final design. Today we drew our figure which we will place in the middle of our backgrounds. I cant wait for our designs to come together. Take a look at our step by step designs and reflection building up to our final design!
Maths has been a continuation of the bus stop methods. To help us think mathematically, we have worked in groups for reasoning and problem solving questions.
Due to it being a very gloomy and wet day, we had 2 indoor play sessions. Children were productive and played some games with each other!
This week began with a shared write on writing a recipe about the pizzas we made during our Art’s Fortnight! We watched recipe videos, saw examples and learnt new writing techniques. We learnt how to vary our writing by introducing S, M sentences. Even though this was a lot of new information, the children shown great determination and did amazingly (see what I did there!).
In Maths, we learnt a new arithmetic skill of multiplying 2 digit numbers by 1 digit number. We will continue to build our fluency next week by focusing on 2 by 3 digit numbers as well as exchanges.
In our second Geography lesson, we have been exploring climate change and its devastating effects on the planet. We took a practical approach and investigated how rising sea levels affect the environment. Every thirty minutes from 9am to 12am, we measured the sea level. As time went on, the ice caps melted causing the sea levels to rise and costal houses to erode. After that, we plotted our results on a line graph.

Science was electric this week. We began with understanding the main components of a basic electric circuit. Next, we all held hands and mimicked a human electric circuit. In small groups, pupils worked together to create their very own circuits!
Please ensure you are practicing TTRS and reading at least 3 times a week.
It was so lovely to welcome all of the children back to class this week. We have started the term with so much positivity and enthusiasm already.
This week in maths we focused on multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1,000. We used place value sliders, base ten equipment and counters to see how each digit moves through the columns when we multiply or divide. We practised with lots of examples and word problems, which helped us understand the patterns and build confidence in our skills. These activities allowed us to explore the process step by step and really develop mastery in maths.
In reading, we explored a non fiction text about orienteering, learning about map symbols, navigation and teamwork. We practised back to back reading, taking turns to read aloud and matching our partner’s tone, intonation, pace and fluency. This helped us improve our expression, accuracy and confidence while reading aloud. Next, we practised the Big 10 skill of inference.
Please remember to complete 10 minutes of TTRS daily and try and get the soundcheck scores up to 25/25.
