The Day in the Life of a Tree and a Reverend !

This week involved lots of exciting opportunities with the local community.

On Tuesday, 4C had the opportunity to prepare questions and interview a Reverend. They asked thoughtful questions about the Reverends daily tasks and their roles and responsibilities in religious celebrations, such as Harvest and Christmas.

Wednesday involved a walk in Adel woods, where we continued our Roots and Routes project. One group thought abstractly about what an old tree may feel, see and hear on a daily basis. We then turned this into a descriptive poem, using wonderful adjectives and adverbs. Whilst group one completed their poems, the other group created a dance with scarfs to represent autumnal leaves slowly falling to the ground.

We have now introduced the TIME TABLE OF THE WEEK… (TTOTW)

To practice instant recall on our times tables we have been focusing on 6 x 4 =24. At every spare moment, the children know Miss Chadwick will randomly ask them “6 4’s are…”. So far, every pupil in the class is able to recall this instantly! Keep an eye out for next week’s blog to find out our new TTOTW.

Have a go at home and ask your children “Six fours are…..” and I’m sure they will all impress you with their super quick recall skills!

DIGESTing learning in Week 5!

4C have had yet another brilliant week.

In writing, we began our hot writes and edited them with our partners help! I am so impressed with the creativity and determination shown from the pupils. We can’t wait to begin our next writing topic next week.

Maths this week involved our new topic, addition and subtraction. We revisited the column method with 4 digit numbers. When things got tricky, we persevered and conquered, and for that I am super proud.

In Science, we explored the digestive system, learning about the different organs involved and their specific roles. One of the highlights was an experiment where we made our own “poo”, simulating the process of digestion and mimicking how each organ contributes to breaking down food. It was a fun and messy way to understand how our bodies work.

After an unfortunate TTRS loss last week, pupils really shown me their grit and determination to bring the trophy back home to 4C. Well done for everyone completing their daily 10 minute TTRS practice at home, it really has made a difference to our scores.

TTRS Winners AGAIN!

4C have had a brilliant week. In writing, we continued with our ‘keep off the tracks’ story and used our detective skills to create an action toolkit. We magpied the authors vocabulary and created a spectrum of quietest to least quietest. We had some healthy debates before choosing our final agreement!


We then began our shared writes, all pupils impressed me so much with their creativity and enquiring minds.

In maths, we continued with our place value topic. We were learning all about ordering numbers up to 10 thousand and comparing them. We encountered some new maths vocabulary ‘ascending and descending’.

In science, we had our first experiment of the year. We investigated how different liquids affect our teeth and the importance of brushing twice a day for two minutes . Now all we have to do is wait for a week for the results!

Finally, some celebrations…

WE WON THE TTRS YEAR 4 BATTLE AGAIN! We are on a winning streak of 3/3 and we get to look after tiny and the trophy for a week. Let’s keep these scores up everyone, it will help us massively with our times tables check next year!

A Super Second Week in Year 4!

Yet again, we have had a fabulous week in Year 4! Children have all settled back into routines amazingly.

In writing, we have been learning the story ‘Keep off the tracks’. At the start of the week, we learned the story with actions. Then we focused on building M, and M & M sentences using colourful semantics.

In Maths, we have been focusing on place value and partitioning numbers. Today we concentrated on flexibly partitioning numbers to 10,000. Even though it was a tricky lesson, pupils all persevered and never gave up.

In our foundation subjects, we learnt all about teeth in Science and all about the Romans in History!

Please come in your PE kit on Tuesday.

Reading books, moving forward, will be changed every Monday. If pupils finish their book earlier, they can be swapped during the week too.

We also celebrated being the class with the best attendance last week. Keep it up 4C and enjoy a wonderful weekend!

Our First Week in Year 4: Learning, Laughing, and Settling In!

It has been lovely to see such great smiles every day in Year 4. I have really enjoyed getting to know everybody, and I cannot wait for the fantastic year ahead.

In writing this week, pupils have shown me their amazing drama skills while learning the poem “The Book” by Michael Rosen. Everyone was so enthusiastic and created fantastic actions to go along with the poem. It was such a joy to watch their creativity shine.

In maths, we have begun our place value topic and have been using Base 10 to represent and partition numbers up to 1,000. I was so impressed with the resilience pupils showed when working through reasoning and problem-solving questions.

In a times tables competition across the Year 4 classes, 4C won! I am so proud of the pupils, and we get to keep Tiny the Turtle until the next competition. Well done, 4C!

A couple of things to note moving forward:

PE days will be on Tuesdays, so please ensure pupils come to school wearing their PE kits. Reading scheme books will be handed out next week. I expect pupils to be reading at least three times a week and to be practising their times tables regularly on Times Table Rock Stars (TTRS).
