NOW THAT’S WHAT I CALL ARTS FORTNIGHT!

What a great start to our Art’s Fortnight!

On Monday, we had a very special visit from Sam the Sound Man. We learnt all about sound including: pitch, volume, nodes and sound waves. We were immersed into our learning by taking part in lots of different scientific experiments.

Our Art’s Fortnight is centred around our class novel ‘The Iron Man’ by Ted Hughes. Our first art project involved learning the skill of gestural drawings. We have spent two days in the art studio practising the skills of drawing with our arms, not our wrists.
.

We had many practice runs and reflected on each one before starting our next draft. Then, we began our final piece of a chalk gestural drawings of the Iron Man.

Today we focused on creating our plasticine prototypes of our Iron Man models. We worked hard on our resiliencebecause it was tricky and we had to overcome a few problems to improve with each attempt. The art skills underpinning the lesson were fine motor skills, understanding the shapes and depth of each body part and moving the clay around with our hands. We each made three attempts. After each attempt, we reflected on what went well and what could be improved for the next time. The students reflected really well and applied their feedback to improve their models with each try.

Tomorrow, we begin creating our final products with clay!
